The basics

What is AtmoDeck?

AtmoDeck is a Windows desktop application that creates a live weather broadcast graphics package: current conditions, forecasts, a live camera, a ticker, and automatic severe weather graphics fed by National Weather Service alerts. It also includes a slideshow of full-screen forecast slides, a Show page that runs a whole broadcast, and Map Studio, its radar and weather map studio, which is also sold on its own. You capture its output window in OBS, vMix or your encoder.

Who is it for?

Anyone who wants a professional-looking weather show without building the graphics themselves: local stations, streamers, storm chasers, schools, community and public-access channels, and weather-focused creators.

What is the difference between the Output and the Console?

The Output is the picture your audience sees. The Console is your control panel. Everything you change in the Console shows up on the Output immediately.

What do I need to run it?

A Windows PC, an internet connection, and a license key. It is best on a machine that can also run your capture software comfortably. It needs the internet for the weather, the alerts and the radar, and to check your license.

Does AtmoDeck work in Canada, and can I storm chase across the border?

Yes to both. Set your country to Canada in Places > Counties and the wizard sets up your forecast zones, alerts and radar. Storm-chaser mode checks which country your phone is in, so you can drive from the US into Canada (or back) and the radar, warnings and, if you tick use my GPS town for everything, your alerts and towns follow you.

Does it work outside the United States?

Canada, yes. Everywhere else, only partly. In Canada, AtmoDeck uses Environment and Climate Change Canada for weather alerts and radar, with forecast zones in place of counties (choose Canada in Places > Counties). Storm reports, the SPC outlook, drought, wildfires, power outages, river gauges and tides are US-only and are not available there yet. In other countries the weather forecasts work wherever Open-Meteo has coverage, but there are no alerts, because they come from the US National Weather Service or Environment Canada.

Where is the documentation?

The documentation covers every part of the software with a table of contents. The API guide covers data services, keys and costs.

Is there help inside the program?

Yes. The round ? button at the top right of the Console, or F1, opens the whole guide inside AtmoDeck with a search box, and it works without the internet. See Help.

Plans, license & billing

What is the difference between Map Studio and the Solo, Standard and Pro plans?

Map Studio includes Live Map and Archive, all their available weather products, photo and video exports, legends and alerts, and a glass header with adjustable colors, text and logo. Forecast Builder and broadcast production tools are included in Solo, Standard and Pro. Map Studio is $4.99/month or $49/year on one computer. Solo, Standard and Pro allow 1, 3 and 6 computers respectively; Standard and Pro include priority email support and the option to switch off the Powered by AtmoDeck badge.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, every plan includes a 7-day free trial with access to the selected plan. You enter a card at checkout but are not charged for the first 7 days. Cancel before the trial ends from the account page and you will not be billed; otherwise the subscription starts automatically on day 8. The app shows how many trial days are left in Status & Health.

How do I get the software and my license key?

Subscribe on the pricing page. Sign in on the account page with the email on your subscription to download the installer. Your license key is emailed to the address you paid with; the checkout success page confirms the subscription but does not display the key. Enter it on the activation screen the first time you launch AtmoDeck. If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, check spam, then email info@atmodeck.com from the address you subscribed with and we will resend it.

What counts as a "machine"?

Each computer that runs AtmoDeck with your key. Solo allows 1 machine at a time, Standard 3 and Pro 6. Use them however suits you, for example an output PC, a console PC and a backup.

I replaced my computer. How do I free the old machine?

Open the account page, sign in with the email on your subscription, and use Your machines to remove the old one. You can also use the legacy license-key tools. Machines that have not run AtmoDeck for 30 days also free their slot automatically.

Can I share my key with someone else?

No. A key is licensed to your own organization, up to the machine count of your plan. If you need more machines, upgrade your tier or email us.

Can I run the Output and Console on different computers?

The two windows run together in one copy of AtmoDeck on one machine. Extra machines on your plan are for running additional copies, such as a backup, each activated with your key.

What happens if my internet goes down?

AtmoDeck keeps running on its last successful license check, which is good for up to 24 hours (the length of the license lease it checks, refreshed every few hours while the app runs and when it opens). While offline you will not get fresh weather or alerts, but a short outage will not lock you out mid-show. If the internet is down for longer than the lease, or the license has been canceled or has lapsed, the app asks for activation again and will not run without it.

What if my card payment fails?

Your license keeps working for 5 days while the payment is retried. Update your card from the account page. After that period, an unpaid subscription stops working at the next license check.

How do I cancel, change plans or update my card?

Open the account page and sign in with the email on your subscription using a one-time code or magic link. The account view shows your subscription timeline and invoices, and opens Stripe's secure billing portal for card updates, plan changes, and cancellation. You can also use the legacy license-key tools. A cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How does account sign-in work?

Enter the email address on your subscription and choose either a six-digit login code or a secure magic link. Codes expire after 10 minutes and magic links expire after 15 minutes. You can choose Remember me to keep the email remembered for up to 30 days; without it, the browser session lasts up to 24 hours. Sign out from the account overview at any time.

Can I see my invoices and renewal date?

Yes. After signing in on the account page, you can view your subscription status, next renewal date, and recent Stripe invoices with links to the hosted invoice or PDF when available.

Does the subscription include weather data?

No. AtmoDeck uses public weather services that have their own terms. The National Weather Service data is free. The main weather service, Open-Meteo, is free for non-commercial use and requires a paid plan for commercial use. See the API guide.

Setup & streaming

How do I get AtmoDeck into OBS?

Add the Output window as a window capture. It is 1920 by 1080 inside a 10-pixel bright green edge guide, so crop 10 pixels from each side. The window is transparent, so turn on your capture source's transparency option if you want to overlay it on other video. See Capturing the output.

OBS shows two AtmoDeck windows. Which one do I capture?

Capture the one titled AtmoDeck Output. The other, AtmoDeck Console, is where you operate the software and should never be on air. If your OBS source was created on an older version where both had the same title, delete the source's window selection and pick AtmoDeck Output again.

What is the green border on the output?

It is an edge guide around the broadcast canvas that shows you where the picture ends while you arrange widgets, so nothing gets placed where it would be cut off. Crop it out in your capture software.

Can I send the Output to OBS or vMix?

Yes. System > Automation has an output stream: a page for an OBS browser source, and a Motion JPEG stream that vMix, VLC and ffmpeg can play. Nothing is captured while nobody is watching. It is not NDI itself; for NDI, take it into OBS and send it on with an NDI plugin.

How do I set up my own area?

Add your counties in Places > Counties, your cities in Places > Cities, and your cameras in Places > Webcams. The counties drive alerts, the mini map, storm reports and which forecast offices are used. See Setting up your area.

Can I stream vertically for TikTok or Shorts?

Yes. Output & Display > Output shape switches the Output window to 9:16 (1080×1920) with its own widget layout. Your wide layout is kept. The slideshow needs the wide shape. See Vertical output.

Can I run a 16:9 stream and a 9:16 social picture at the same time?

Yes. Look > Output & Display has a Second output: a second window in the other shape with its own widget layout, which you arrange with its own edit button. Point a second OBS source at the window called AtmoDeck Output 2. See The second output.

Can I run AtmoDeck as an always-on screen?

Yes. Kiosk mode (Look > Output & Display) opens just the Output fullscreen with no console, and AtmoDeck can start with Windows. Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+K on that PC to leave kiosk mode. See Kiosk mode.

Can I use Celsius, km/h, Spanish or French?

Yes. See Output & Display > Units & language. Temperature, wind and pressure units apply to the main widgets, and Spanish or French translates the fixed labels. National Weather Service alert text stays in English.

Will my settings survive an update or reinstall?

Settings are saved on your machine, separately from the program, so an ordinary reinstall should keep them. To be safe, export a backup first (Keys & Backup > Backup & Restore > Save everything to a file) and keep the file somewhere else. You can import it on any machine.

Is my setup backed up?

Yes. AtmoDeck keeps its own copy of your settings and slideshow playlists outside the browser profile, dated copies every six hours while things change and one when it closes, and puts the copy back if the profile loses its own. Keys & Backup lists them so you can restore one, and saves everything to a file to keep elsewhere. That file holds your keys, so keep it private.

Does AtmoDeck update itself?

The installed app checks for updates automatically and downloads them quietly, but never restarts on its own. A banner offers Restart & install when you are off air, or it installs the next time you start the app.

Where can I see what changed in an update?

The app shows a What's New box after it updates itself, with every earlier version below it. The same notes are on the changelog page.

Data & keys

Do I need to buy or sign up for any data service?

No. AtmoDeck works out of the box with free services and no keys. Keys are optional upgrades: a paid Open-Meteo key for commercial use and higher limits, a free NWWS-OI login for faster alerts, and an OpenWeather key for the slideshow.

Can I use the free weather service for a commercial station?

Open-Meteo's free service is for non-commercial use. A broadcast that earns money, such as a commercial station or a monetized stream, is generally commercial use and should use a paid plan. Read their terms and decide for your situation. Details are in the API guide.

How many cities can I add on the free tier?

Each city uses roughly 240 weather calls per day, and the free limit is under 10,000 per day, so about 35 to 40 cities is the practical ceiling. Fewer if you run the slideshow a lot. See the call budget.

What does "Backup API Active" mean?

The main weather service could not be reached (or you ran out of calls), so AtmoDeck is using the National Weather Service for forecasts instead. It keeps working, but some details, like UV, are less complete. It switches back automatically when the main service returns.

Where do I get an NWWS-OI login?

It is free from the National Weather Service. Start at weather.gov/nwws. Approval can take a while, so request it early. Enter it in Keys & Backup > API Keys. It is optional; without it, alerts still work through normal checking.

Are my keys and settings sent anywhere?

Your keys are stored only on your machine and are sent only to the service they belong to. AtmoDeck's own server only receives your license key, a machine identifier and the app version to check your subscription. See the privacy policy.

Alerts & severe weather

Where do the alerts come from, and how fast are they?

They come from the National Weather Service. AtmoDeck checks every 2 minutes, and every 45 seconds while an alert is active. With a free NWWS-OI login it also refreshes the moment a new bulletin reaches your forecast offices.

Why am I not seeing alerts for a nearby county?

Only alerts affecting the counties listed in Places > Counties are shown. Add the county and press Apply.

What changes on screen during a severe alert?

For a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning the theme switches to Severe, the threat panel and the alert map appear, the alert is shown in the ticker area, and your severe alarm and Severe logo are used if you set them. Every other alert is shown in the ticker and on the alert map without changing the theme. See Severe weather alerts on air.

Can I stop the severe theme from taking over the broadcast?

Yes. In Look > Output & Display > Severe theme, untick Enable Severe Theme (Red). The alert still shows in the ticker. You can also use Hide Alerts in the On Air page for ticker-only mode.

Can I hide alert types I do not want, like Special Weather Statements?

Yes. Look > Alert Colors has a Hide alert types list. A hidden type is removed everywhere on the broadcast. Be careful with warnings: hiding one means viewers will not see it from AtmoDeck.

Can I rehearse without going live?

Yes. The On Air page has threat, SPC and storm-report simulators. They put test alerts on the real output, so use them off air, and press Reset Everything afterwards. Simulated alerts also end on their own after 20 minutes.

The map is empty or my counties do not show. Why?

Check the Counties screen for an amber "not found" warning next to a name, which means a misspelling. The county shapes also load from the internet when AtmoDeck starts, so restart it with a connection if you started offline.

What is the Active Alerts widget, and why is it not showing?

It shows how many alerts are active and a list of the newest ones for your counties. It is off by default so it never changes an existing broadcast. Turn it on in Layout & Widgets.

Can AtmoDeck switch my OBS scene when a warning is issued?

Yes. In Automation turn on OBS scene switching, connect to OBS's WebSocket server, and choose a scene for severe weather and one for the rest of the time. See Automation.

Layout & widgets

How do I move or resize things?

Use Enter Edit Mode in Layout & Widgets. Drag a widget to move it, drag its corner handle to resize it (the box changes and the contents keep their size; the Size sliders in the widget's right-click menu make the contents bigger or smaller), and use the arrow keys to nudge. Ctrl+Z undoes. Edit Mode is live on the output, so use it off air. See Edit Mode.

Two widgets overlap and I cannot pick the one behind.

In Edit Mode click the widget, then click again in the same place without moving: the next one behind is selected (and the next, round to the front again) and comes to the front so you can drag it. The Powered by AtmoDeck badge is the exception: it is always in front, so nothing can cover it.

How do I hide a panel I do not use?

Untick it in Layout & Widgets, or right-click it in Edit Mode and choose Hide this widget. Its position is remembered for when you turn it back on.

What extra widgets are there, and how do I turn them on?

Besides the Active Alerts widget there are Storm Reports, a Severe Outlook (SPC) panel, a Regional Leaderboard, a looping Radar, River & Lake Gauges, separate Earthquakes, Wildfires and Drought Monitor widgets, Marine & Tides, a Text Card, a Closings List, a Sponsor rotator and QR & Social. All are off by default so they never change an existing broadcast. Turn them on in Layout & Widgets, then position them in Edit Mode. See Right-click options.

Can one widget box show several things in turn?

Yes. In Layout & Widgets, add a slideshow group and tick the widgets that should share the box. They fade in and out on a timer you set. See Slideshow groups.

Can I keep several layouts and switch between them?

Yes. Save layouts in Layout & Widgets and switch with buttons in the On Air page or with a keyboard shortcut you assign. Shortcuts work even when OBS is the focused window. See Saved layouts.

My keyboard shortcut does not work.

The layout will show a warning if another program already uses that combination. Pick a different one. Shortcuts need a modifier (Ctrl, Alt or Shift) unless you use a function key.

How do I change what the bottom bar or ticker shows?

Turn on Edit Mode and right-click the widget. The bottom bar lets you tick individual stats (including dew point and air quality), the hourly and 5-day forecasts let you change hours or days and how many, and the ticker lets you turn weather on or off, set its font and size, and add your own feeds. Coming Up lets you show up to 6 cities.

How do I add my own ticker feed?

Right-click the ticker in Edit Mode, and under Add a feed enter a title, a source (an RSS address, or your own text with messages separated by a vertical bar), a title color, and whether it scrolls or flips.

How do I get news headlines on the ticker?

AtmoDeck has no built-in news source. Right-click the Ticker in Edit Mode and, under Add a feed, paste your own local RSS feed address.

Can the radar be a circle, or use a satellite map?

Yes. Right-click the Radar widget in Edit Mode: Map style offers Counties, Satellite, Topographic and Shaded relief (from the USGS National Map), and Shape can be Rectangle or Circle.

Does the radar show velocity and warning boxes?

Yes. Right-click the Radar widget in Edit Mode to choose reflectivity, velocity, or rotate between them, to draw tornado and severe thunderstorm warning polygons, and to change the map color. It is separate from the Alert Map.

Does the Radar widget work outside the United States?

In Canada, yes: choose Canada in Places > Counties and the Radar shows Environment Canada radar (rain or snow). Elsewhere, no: it uses the US NEXRAD network, so it only shows radar over the United States.

Where do I type a school closing or a sponsor message?

In Content Widgets. Add a text card or closings entries, and tick Show on air for that section. It appears on the output right away with no Apply button. Text cards can be scheduled for a time window or a daily window.

Can I prove to a sponsor how long their logo was on air?

Yes. The Sponsor report at the bottom of Content Widgets shows on-air time per sponsor logo and text card by day, and exports a CSV or PDF. It measures broadcast time, not viewers.

Can I show my own data, like a sensor or a sports feed?

Yes. The Custom Data widgets show anything from a web address that returns JSON or an RSS feed. Set them up in Content Widgets and use Look at it to see what the address returns. There are also Countdown and World Clock widgets.

How do I find my river gauge or tide station?

In Content Widgets, use Find NWS gauges near my area or Find stations near my area. They list the nearest ones and add them with one click. Tide stations only exist on the coasts and the Great Lakes.

Can my viewers ask for their own forecast in chat?

Yes, on Twitch. Set your channel in Automation and turn on the Chat Weather Request widget. A viewer types !weather Springfield, MO and their forecast appears on screen briefly. AtmoDeck never posts in your chat.

Look & feel

What is a look?

The whole styling of the app saved under a name: colors, logos, the weather icons on the map, fonts, the layout style and backdrop, where the widgets are, and the map look. Switch looks in one click in Look > Looks or on the On Air page. Places, cameras, content and keys are never part of a look. See Looks.

What layout styles are there, and which is the default?

Six: Diagonal, Diagonal with square corners, Squared corners, Rounded corners, Classic (solid, flat) and Classic with gradients. Classic is the style a new install starts with, and it follows the colors you choose in Look > Colors (flat black until you change them); an install that already saved a style keeps it. The choice is on Layout & Widgets and applies as soon as you pick it. See Widget background and layout style.

Where do I change the colors?

In Look > Colors, for Day, Night and Severe, each color with its own opacity. The Looks tab beside it holds the style of the panels (finish, fill, corners and edges) and your saved looks; colors are edited in Colors only. See Colors.

Are there seasonal color themes?

Yes. Look > Colors has theme packs (Halloween, Winter Holiday, Autumn, Patriotic, Spring and Ocean) that set the Day and Night colors in one click. The severe theme keeps its own colors.

Can I use my own weather icons, even animated ones?

Yes. Look > Weather Icons has a card for each kind of weather and the eight moon phases. Upload a PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, JPEG or SVG up to 3 MB; animated GIF, PNG, WebP and SVG pictures move. They are used on the bottom and hourly bars, in the slideshow, in the forecast slides of a right click, on the map's weather icons and on the moon card. A kind with no picture keeps the usual icon, and you can switch your pictures off without deleting them. See Weather icons.

What is the lower third, and how do I use it?

A title bar for the lower part of the picture with titles that cycle, an optional label box above (WEATHER, BREAKING) and an optional subtitle line under. Turn it on in Layout & Widgets, place it in Edit Mode, and write its titles and set its look on the On Air page. It follows the layout style and theme colors unless you pick colors, and it comes and goes with the layout change animation. See The lower third.

How do I put breaking news on the lower third?

On the On Air page, type the headline in Ticker and Lower Third, choose Ticker, Lower third or both, and press Push to Screen. On the lower third it comes as a layer that covers the whole thing, subtitle included, in the colors of your Breaking look (red by default), and goes away when you press Clear, showing the lower third that went on cycling underneath.

Can I hide or cover the Powered by AtmoDeck badge?

On the Standard and Pro plans (3 and 6 computers), yes: untick Powered by AtmoDeck in Look > Layout & Widgets, and it is gone from the Output, the radar map and every screenshot and video. On Map Studio and Solo it is always on and always in front of every other widget and layer, though you can move it anywhere and resize it down to half its size. See Turning widgets on and off.

Can I change the keys for the screenshot and for fitting the Output to the screen?

Yes, on the Keybinds page. The usual keys are Ctrl+PrintScreen for a screenshot of the Output and F12 to fit the Output to the screen, and both work while another program, such as OBS, has focus. See Keybinds.

Map Studio

Does AtmoDeck have its own radar?

Yes. Map Studio, in the Console, draws live NEXRAD Level II from any WSR-88D site, the national MRMS radar with 240 products, satellite, outlooks, warnings and hurricanes on a map behind your widgets. It uses free public data and needs no keys. See the Map Studio chapter.

What is the difference between the Radar widget and Map Studio?

The Radar widget is a small box you place in your layout. Map Studio is the full radar map that sits behind your widgets, with a header, legend, storm tracks, satellite, 3D and drawing tools.

What does the map show when I start AtmoDeck?

What it showed when you closed it. Map Studio remembers the product, the layers and every setting, and opens the same way; a new install opens on the national radar and the warnings. The loop starts paused on its newest picture, and Archive mode is never reopened by itself: AtmoDeck always starts on the live map. Turn on On output to put the map on the Output. See Turning it on.

How do I put a product on the map?

Press + Add product at the top of Active layers. The library lists every radar, satellite, outlook, model and analysis product by category, with a search box, your starred favorites and what you used lately. Use main makes it the main picture and Add layer lays it over what is there. See Adding products.

Can I change the map without the change going on air?

Yes. Press Prepare next map: the Console's map changes while the Output keeps its picture. When the new map has loaded, Take to Air puts it on the Output in one step, and Discard throws it away. See Prepare next map.

What happens when I click something on the map?

Its story box comes up, on the preview and on the Output: a broadcast graphic with the headline, the numbers large and a line to the spot, for a warning, a river gauge, a rotation marker, a hurricane hunter, a storm report, an earthquake, a fire, a buoy or a station. Ctrl-click keeps several up at once, and Raw data (in the preview only) shows the full card. See Story boxes.

How do the warning boxes with people, hospitals and schools work?

Click a warning and its box comes up on the map and on the Output: its name, when it expires, the areas, and large the people, hospitals and schools inside it, then what the warning itself says (hazard, source, impact, where, when and what to do). Ctrl-click adds another box beside it, a double click makes a box compact, and Clear all or Esc takes them off. The people are counted from the Census, and the hospitals and schools by name from OpenStreetMap (shown as "at least", because that map is not complete). See Story boxes.

Which weather models can it show?

The HRRR, the RAP, the REFS ensemble, NAM Nest, NAM (12 km), the GFS, the National Blend of Models, the GEFS mean, NOAA's AIGFS, the ECMWF IFS and AIFS (open data), the GFS wave model and the hurricane models HAFS-A and HAFS-B, every weather-map field of their runs, plus three environment indexes made by AtmoDeck. A field can also be shown as its change since the run before. Other countries' own models are not included yet. See Forecast models.

What are the mesoanalysis maps, and where does the data come from?

Forty-five maps in six groups (instability, levels, wind shear and helicity, severe-weather composites, the surface and the upper air) that AtmoDeck draws itself from the HRRR model's hourly analysis, the model NOAA publishes free on its open data. Each is an ordinary model layer, so its colors, contour lines, readings and opacity are yours to change, and one is on the map at a time. Pick one under Current Mesoanalysis in + Add product, or from the right-click menu. See Mesoanalysis.

Can I get a sounding by right-clicking the map?

Yes. Right-click a spot for the nearest NEXRAD radar, a sounding (the Storm Prediction Center's analysis for that exact spot, or the nearest observed radiosonde launch), a mesoanalysis map and a current, hourly or 5-day forecast slide. The sounding is worked out with the routines of SHARPpy (the open-source sounding analysis program, BSD licensed) ported into AtmoDeck, and drawn the SHARPpy way: skew-T, hodograph, the tables and three insets you choose. It appears in the Popup Box you place in the widget editor. See the right-click menu.

Can I see the radar in 3D?

Yes. With one radar on the map, the 3D button on the tool rail stands every tilt up as a volume you can turn and tilt, in four looks (Solid, Surfaces, Smooth, Blocks), with a height ruler, the freezing level and wind barbs. Draw a box round one storm for the finest grid. See 3D.

Can I draw fronts, highs and lows for a forecast map?

Yes, in Forecast Builder (Solo, Standard and Pro), the second mode of Map Studio: fronts, troughs, drylines, highs and lows, the jet stream, arrows, labels and painted areas, flat or in 3D, moving smoothly from one keyframe to the next. Auto (WPC) places the analysis and forecast fronts of the Weather Prediction Center for you. See Forecast Builder.

Can it show storm surge, tides and flooded roads?

Yes. Storm surge and tide gauges, Roadway flood and hydroplaning risk, River gauges and the other water layers are map overlays in + Add product. The road risk is an estimate from radar rain and terrain, not a measurement of any street. See Water and flooding.

What is Insight?

Analysis AtmoDeck makes from the live radar: every storm as a dot in the color of its threat, with a score, where it has been and where it is going in the next hour, and a card with its details when you click it. They are aids for presenting, not warnings. See Insight.

Are the rotation markers a tornado warning?

No. They mark radar-indicated rotation to help a presenter point at something. AtmoDeck is not an official warning system; keep using your official channels for safety decisions.

Why are some rotation markers missing, or why is there none in plain rain?

A marker needs real rotation inside real echo. Where the wind is steady at the radar's own limit (its Nyquist velocity) the radar cannot tell inbound from outbound, so AtmoDeck repairs those gates and does not mark rotation there; a real tornado couplet is still marked, and a tornado warning gets a marker on the rotation inside it even when it is too weak to mark anywhere else. Markers are radar-indicated rotation, not a confirmed tornado.

Can I bring my own data onto the map, like a KML file or a placefile?

Yes. + Add custom layer, at the top of Active layers, takes GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, shapefiles and placefiles, from a file or a web address, up to 12 layers. A layer from an address or a file can be checked for updates as often as every 10 seconds, and a map slide remembers which custom layers it had on. See Custom layers.

Does the map show terrain, and the sky?

Both. The Terrain layer draws shaded relief and colors by height (also on the globe) and real 3D ground on the flat map, from free elevation tiles. Tilt the map until the horizon shows and the sky is drawn for the time of day with real stars at night, clouds by day, and the sun and the moon where they are, the moon in its true phase. See Terrain and the sky.

Can I make the header look like my station's?

Yes. Upload a PNG in the header creator (the header's settings in Map Studio) and place each element on it. See the header creator.

Can I make the radar map smaller and put other widgets around it?

Yes. In Edit Mode the radar map is a widget called Radar Map: drag it to move it and drag its corner to resize it, keeping its 16:9 shape. It starts as the whole picture, so existing layouts look the same. See The radar map as a widget.

Can I cut to the radar on the fly, or have it come up by itself in a warning?

Yes. Save the map as a slide, give it a hotkey and press it to cut the Output to it, even while the slideshow plays; the phone remote has the same buttons. The automatic warning view brings the map up on a new warning by itself and puts everything back afterwards. See Map slides, cuts and the automatic warning view.

How do I get a screenshot of the radar?

Open Export at the top of Map Studio and click Take a screenshot, or press Ctrl+PrintScreen even while OBS has focus. Export also records the map as an MP4 video. It saves the radar alone to Pictures\AtmoDeck and copies it to the clipboard.

How do I get a picture of only the radar for a social post?

Map Studio > Export > Clean screenshot: the map, the header and the boxes you tick, with a Powered by AtmoDeck box, as the output, square, 4:5 or 9:16. Each saved block also has a Still button that does it for that block. See Screenshots and videos.

Can I make a vertical video of the radar for social media?

Yes. Clip for social, at the top of Map Studio's Export menu, makes an upright 1080 by 1920 MP4 of the loop with the header, the legend and the badge, and opens Social Posting with it attached. What is on air is not touched. See A clip of the map for social.

Does Map Studio work in Canada or outside the United States?

One-radar Level II covers United States radar sites, and the national MRMS maps cover the contiguous United States. In Canada the map uses Environment Canada's radar images. Satellite pictures cover most of the world.

The national radar says WebGL 2 is missing.

The national radar draws on your graphics card with WebGL 2. Update your graphics driver, or run AtmoDeck on a PC with a newer graphics card.

Archive mode

Can I replay a past storm, like the Joplin tornado?

Yes. Archive mode, beside Live Map and Forecast Builder in Map Studio, plays any radar for a window of up to three days, any date back to 1991, with the warnings and watches as they were sent, storm reports, damage surveys, tornado tracks, lightning, satellite, river gauges and the outlooks of the day. You can name the event on the header. See Archive mode.

Does Archive mode change my live radar map?

No. It has its own radar, window, product, overlays and title, and leaving it puts the live map back exactly as it was. AtmoDeck always starts on the live map, not in Archive mode.

Why is a radar product missing from the list in Archive mode?

The list holds only what that radar has for the window. The dual-pol products reached each radar on its own day between 2011 and 2013, and the radar's own finished products (echo tops, VIL, rain totals) are archived from the end of March 2020. See The products of a window.

Can I save a past event and open it again?

Yes. The Events menu of Archive mode saves the window you set up and lists your saved events, each opened again with one click. See Events.

Shows, voice & posting

What is a block, and how do I make a show from blocks?

A block is the map as it is now (in Live Map, Forecast Builder or Archive mode) saved with how it should play: one picture held for some seconds, or an animation played some laps, from where the map is looking or on a tour of your viewpoints. Save one from the Library of Map Studio, or let the Show page make it: + Add to show can turn any map product into a block for you. Then build a show on the Show page by adding blocks, slides, intros and intermissions in order. See Blocks and The Show page.

Can I move through a show with a key instead of by the clock?

Yes. Set the show to play step by step (or mark single steps as waiting for you) and press Space on the Show page, or use the keys in its Keys boxes, which work even while OBS has the focus. The phone remote has Next, Back and Hold too. A show can also be armed for a time of day or played by auto-pilot during hours you set.

How do I cut to the radar in the middle of a show when the weather turns?

Press Break in on the Show page (or B, Control+Alt+X, or the button on the phone). The Output cuts at once to the block you chose under Break in shows, or to the radar map as it is, and the show is held. Press it again to go back to the step that was interrupted. See Show tools.

Can a show end at an exact time?

Yes. Tick End on time on the Show page and give the time. Mark the steps that can go as Optional: a show that is too long leaves them out, the last first, and shortens its pauses; one that is short lengthens them. See Show tools.

Can AtmoDeck build a show for me?

Yes. Right now on the Show page writes a show of three to five blocks from the warnings in effect, the storm behind the worst of them, a river in flood, the severe outlook, the local radar and the HRRR futurecast, each with a line for the Voice. Edit it like any show. See Right now.

Can a voice read the forecast and the alerts aloud?

Yes. The Voice page reads the slideshow while it plays and each new alert, on the Output. Eleven natural voices can be added free and work without the internet; your own Azure or OpenAI key is optional. It is off until you switch it on. See The Voice page.

Is there a teleprompter?

Yes. The Teleprompter page writes a script from the live warnings and weather, takes lines of your own, and shows it over the Console, in a window on another screen, or on a tablet through the remote. See The Teleprompter.

Can AtmoDeck post warnings to social media by itself?

Yes. Social Posting > Automatic alerts posts each new watch and warning with a picture of the area to X, Bluesky, Mastodon, a Facebook page, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Teams or any web address. It is off until you switch it on, and every post waits for your click unless you say otherwise. See How alert posting works.

Can someone else approve the posts?

Yes. Team approval gives each producer a private link to approve or reject the waiting posts from a computer or a phone; your accounts stay on the AtmoDeck computer. See Team approval.

Can I show how the warnings and my forecast verified?

Yes. The Graphics tab of Social Posting has a Verification group: yesterday's warnings against the storm reports, and yesterday's forecast highs, lows and snow against what was measured. The forecast pictures have their first comparison the day after AtmoDeck has run for a day. See Verification.

Slideshow

What does the slideshow do?

It plays full-screen forecast slides (7-day, current conditions, day planner, severe outlook and more) on the Output window, following morning, afternoon and evening playlists you build. It can also export a short social-media video clip.

Why is there a magenta screen between runs?

Between runs the output rests on solid magenta so you can key it out in your production software. Set Loop Interval to 0 for continuous play.

Can the slideshow show my cameras?

Yes. On the Slides page, add Live Camera to a playlist to rotate through all your cameras, or pick Live Camera: name to show one. It plays the same kinds of links as the corner camera: YouTube, HLS, video files and snapshot images.

Does the slideshow use my cities and counties?

Yes. Regional slides use your first ten cities in your order, region titles use your area name, and the default city follows your first city. The lakes slide only includes built-in lakes near your area, so remove it from playlists if you have none nearby.

Do I need an OpenWeather key for the slideshow?

No. It is optional. The slideshow works without one. See the API guide.

Can I use my own music, videos and backgrounds?

Yes: separate day and night intro music (MP3), optional day and night intro videos (MP4), your own background photos for each mood, and your own logos and colors. See Styling and media.

Cameras, scanner & music

What kinds of camera links can I use?

HLS streams (.m3u8), YouTube videos and live streams, Vimeo, MP4 and WebM files, still or snapshot images (refreshed every 4 seconds), MJPEG streams, and ordinary web pages. See the table in Webcams.

How do I find webcams for my area?

Places > Webcams has Find webcams near my area, which lists public traffic cameras nearest you and adds them in one click. It is built in for Missouri, Colorado, Iowa and California; anywhere else you can paste any camera link.

My YouTube camera says the video is unavailable.

That message comes from YouTube: the stream is offline, private, has ended, or does not allow embedding. Try opening the same link in a browser. Live streams that are currently running work as camera sources.

A web page I added as a camera looks wrong or blank.

Pages are shown inside the camera panel, and a few sites use scripts that refuse to be displayed inside another page. If you can, use the site's direct stream, snapshot image or embed address instead of the full page.

How do I show the current song or scanner call?

AtmoDeck reads two plain text files from its data folder (%APPDATA%\atmodeck): Track.txt for the music line and Stream.txt for the scanner line. Any music player plugin or scanner software that can write to a text file will work. See Now Playing and Scanner.

Can the scanner and now-playing text come from a file somewhere else?

Yes. In Content Widgets > Scanner and now-playing files, choose any text file on your PC for each. Leave them empty to use Stream.txt and Track.txt in AtmoDeck's data folder.

I do not use a scanner or music. Can I hide those panels?

Yes. Untick them under Panel Visibility in Look > Output & Display, or hide them in Layout & Widgets.

Remote control, chasing & teams

Can I control AtmoDeck from my phone or a Stream Deck?

Yes. Turn on Remote control in Automation, then open the link (or scan the code) on a phone on the same Wi-Fi. It can switch layouts, hide alerts, force day or night and start or stop the slideshow. See Automation.

Does the phone remote work away from home, on cell data?

Not by itself. The remote page runs on your PC and your phone has to be able to reach it: the same Wi-Fi, or a hotspot shared between the PC and the phone (the usual storm-chasing setup, with the PC in the vehicle). If the PC stays at home, a free private network tool such as Tailscale can connect the two, and it has been tested to work. See Storm-chaser mode.

Can AtmoDeck follow me while I storm chase?

Yes. On the phone remote page, Follow my location (or Jump to a place) makes the Radar widget follow you: it centers on where you are, shows a YOU marker and the tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings nearby, until you tap Stop chasing. Your other widgets stay on your normal area. GPS needs the secure link. See Storm-chaser mode.

Can several computers share one setup?

Yes. The Team page keeps a team of computers on the same setup, live: add people by email, choose who can edit and who can only view, review your changes before they go out, and undo what the team changed. Keys, passwords and the license are never shared. See The Team page.

Troubleshooting

The activation screen says my key is not valid.
  • Enter it exactly as emailed, in the form ATMO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, with no extra spaces.
  • A message about the activation limit means all your machine slots are in use. Free one on the account page or upgrade your tier.
  • A canceled or past-due message means the subscription is not active. Update billing on the account page.
  • A network error means the license server could not be reached. Check your connection and try again.
Nothing updates: weather looks frozen.

Open Status & Health and look at the Data feeds list. A red dot next to weather or alerts points to the problem, and "Backup API Active" means the main weather service is down or over its limit. Check your internet connection, and if you have many cities, see the call budget in the API guide.

Some temperatures or conditions show a small amber dot.

It means a value looked implausible (for example a huge sudden jump), so AtmoDeck held the previous value instead of showing something wrong. It clears when the readings settle.

A test alert is stuck on the screen.

Press Reset Everything in the On Air page, or Clear Simulator Alerts. Simulated alerts also clear on their own after 20 minutes.

My widgets are in the wrong place or I made a mess.

Click Reset Layout in Layout & Widgets to return everything to the original arrangement, or apply a layout you saved earlier. Ctrl+Z in Edit Mode undoes recent moves.

What if the output freezes overnight?

The Watchdog in Status & Health restarts the output by itself if it freezes or crashes, refreshes stale weather and alert data, and tells you when it acts.

I still need help.

Email info@atmodeck.com or ask in our Discord. It helps to include what you were doing and the diagnostics from Status & Health > Support.
